Ireland "IN CLOSE UP"

For the 22nd edition of the Cherbourg-Octeville festival of Irish and British cinema which will run from 14th to 20th March, Association traveling has chosen to pay tribute to Ireland.

The beauty of Ireland, its force and authenticity, its charms and mysteries enchant us all. From an ethnic, historical and linguistic point of view, but also culturally and politically, the Emerald Isle stirs our curiosity. This country has known how to heal the wounds of it tumultuous past and has moved on. Its acceptance into the European Union in 1973 and its extremely dynamic economic development since have placed Ireland at the top of European countries.

The emergence of a rich Irish cinematographic world and its appeal have given the festival of Irish and British cinema the opportunity to present two strong themes linked to the country's cinema : the reality of daily life and the history of Ireland, notably with regard to its close links with Great Britain. It is also a good occasion to promote Irish directors, still little known in France, and to invite cinema goers to discover a real overview of the country.

Besides the feature length films not yet distributed in France, avant-premieres, documentaries and the school programme, Association Travelling will present a special programme of films dedicated to Irish cinema.
